I attended St James's RC school in Twickenham from1935-1939. I have fond memories of singing 'Land of Hope and Glory' on the playground roof on Empire Day. The Headmaster was Mr Cole. H e was a wonderful Head and took me with his wife to see a play about Charles 1 because I was interested in History. I passed a Scholarship to Gumley House in 1939 but could not attend because we came back home to live in Preston because of my Father's work. I also went from the school to see Cardinal Hinsley made Cardinal at Westminster Cathedral.
